Libby's story

Libby will be three on August 13.  Her verbal skills are a little behind for her age, but she manages to communicate just fine and her receptive communication is at or above age level.  I said all that so that I could relay this fun conversation we had today at naptime:

Mama:  "It's naptime, Libby."

Libby:  "No, mama! I drink lime juice (from the leftover lime from Daddy's cherry limeade).  I play a li'l bit?"

Mama:  "Ok, you can play for 5 minutes. I'll set the timer."

5 minutes later....

Mama:  "Ok, Libby, the timer dinged.  It's naptime now".

Libby:  "No, mama...I play a li'l bit?"

Mama : "No, the timer dinged.  It's naptime now.  Let's pick out some pants."(she has to have pants to sleep, even if she's been playing in just a diaper...the girl is quirky)  "So...do you want these pants, or these pants?"

Libby:  (points to the blue pair)  "No, yucky!" (points to orange pair)  "Nah"  (points back to blue pair and grins)

Mama:  "You want the blue ones?"

Libby: " yeah....Baby eat my pants!  Yuck!"

Mama:  "The baby didn't eat your pants!"

Libby:  "Baby eat my pants. Yucky! Me cry. "

Mama:  "yeah, that would be yucky if the baby ate your pants!"

Libby:  "mama get me new pants"

Mama:  "yeah, if the baby ate your pants, mama would get you new ones, but the baby didn't eat your pants, so you don't have to cry, and I don't have to get you new ones"

Libby:  "Me STORY, Mama!"

Mama:  "Ah!  That is a good story, now it's time for nap"

Libby:  "Night night, mama!"

Such a kooky story!  She has such a fun imagination.  I don't think I can bear to send her off to the homogenizing institution in two years.
